Press Release: Minot Women's Network to hold Women's March
For Immediate Release
Minot, ND – The newly formed organization, Minot Women’s Network, will hold a Women’s March to advocate for reproductive freedom of choice in North Dakota, Monday, June 24, 2024.
The peaceful demonstration, set to take place on the sidewalk in front of Town and Country Shopping Center at the corner of Broadway Avenue and 9th Ave SW in Minot at 5:00 p.m., will be held on the second anniversary of the overturn of Roe v. Wade by the United States Supreme Court. Since the overturn, numerous states including North Dakota have passed legislation restricting access to reproductive care.
“Our goal for this event is to stand in solidarity with people across the country as part of a nationwide effort, bringing recognition to our right to reproductive freedom of choice, and the belief held by many that reproductive decision-making should be between an individual and their healthcare provider, without government interference.” said Kali Bauer, Executive Coordinator for the Minot Women’s Network.
The organization started as a post on a local Facebook page in early May and grew into a group of almost 500 participants. With that momentum, MWN aims to increase accessibility to health resources and access to reproductive care options, provide accurate education and information to North Dakota communities on reproductive care topics, and facilitate impactful, long-term social and legislative change in North Dakota.
“This is about more than just abortion,” said Bauer. “Reproductive health care encompasses many topics, including access to contraception, IVF fertility treatments, quality and timely care for reproductive conditions and high risk pregnancies, comprehensive education on reproductive and sexual health, and much more. We recognize that our ability to make their own medical choices is currently at risk, and we want to show our community and our legislative representatives that this matters for the safety, wellbeing and mental health of individuals across North Dakota. ”
